NDIS Community Participation

Community Access & Social Participation

Life happens out in the community. Our team supports you to get out and about: to connect with people, try new things and take part in the activities you enjoy, with as much or as little support as you need.

What is Community Access?

Community access support means a support worker goes with you: to help you get there, be there and get home safely. It covers the places you need to go and the places you want to go.

Whatever getting involved looks like for you, a hobby, a club, study, volunteering or a regular coffee catch up, we match you with a support worker who shares your interests and helps you make it happen.

What we can help with

  • Support to take part in social and recreational activities.
  • Help joining clubs, groups, classes and community events.
  • Support with study, volunteering and work experience.
  • Travel training and building confidence with public transport.
  • Developing social skills and building genuine friendships.

Who is it for?

It’s for any participant who wants to get out more but needs support to do it. Parents, carers and support coordinators can enquire on someone’s behalf, and we’ll take it from there.

Where we provide it

We provide Community Access across Adelaide, including the northern suburbs, north east, CBD and inner north, western suburbs, southern suburbs and the Adelaide Hills. See the full list of areas we service.

Your Community Access questions answered

Which part of my plan funds community access?
Toggle answer

One-on-one support to get out into the community usually comes from your Core budget (“Assistance with Social & Community Participation”). Skill-building programs and group activities may be funded from Capacity Building (“Increased Social & Community Participation”). We’ll help you work out what your plan covers.

Is support one-on-one or in groups?
Toggle answer

Both are available. Some people prefer individual support built around their own interests; others enjoy small group activities and the social connection that comes with them. Many do a mix.

What kinds of activities can I do?
Toggle answer

Almost anything you’re into: sport and exercise, art, music, movies, markets, fishing, gaming groups, cooking classes, volunteering or just a regular coffee catch-up. Your goals and interests lead; we support.

Can my support worker drive me to activities?
Toggle answer

Yes, getting there is part of the support. Travel with your worker during a shift can be covered by your plan; see our Transport page for more detail.

Why choose Authentic Care?

  • You pick your team. Meet your support worker for free before any shift starts, and if the fit isn’t right, we swap. No questions.
  • We answer our phone. Calls and emails returned within one business day, and our on call line is staffed every night of the year.
  • Local and independent. We’re a locally owned, registered NDIS provider based in Adelaide, not a national call centre.
  • Everyone stays in the loop. Weekly email updates keep you, your family and your coordinator on the same page.
