What is Recovery Coaching?

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is NDIS funding for people living with psychosocial disability. A Recovery Coach works alongside you to build capacity, resilience and the confidence to take charge of your own life and supports.

Your coach takes the time to understand your strengths, your story and what recovery means to you, then helps you build a recovery plan around your own goals and coordinate your NDIS and mental health supports.

What we can help with

  • Build a recovery-focused relationship based on trust, respect and hope.
  • Develop a recovery plan with you, centred on your strengths and goals.
  • Coordinate your NDIS supports and connect you with clinical and community mental health services.
  • Build your skills, confidence and capacity to manage your own supports over time.
  • Support you and the people around you to understand and respond to the ebb and flow of recovery.

Who is it for?

Recovery Coaching is for participants whose plan includes a Psychosocial Recovery Coach under the Capacity Building budget. It suits people living with mental health challenges who want steady, practical support through the ups and downs. Coaches with mental health training or lived experience are available, and we match carefully.

Where we provide it

We provide Recovery Coaching across Adelaide, including the northern suburbs, north east, CBD and inner north, western suburbs, southern suburbs and the Adelaide Hills. See the full list of areas we service.

Your Recovery Coaching questions answered

What’s the difference between a Recovery Coach and a Support Coordinator?
Toggle answer

Both help you use your NDIS plan, but Recovery Coaches specialise in psychosocial disability. They have mental health training or lived experience, spend more time working directly with you, and focus on recovery-oriented practice: building motivation, resilience and capacity, not just coordinating services.

How is Recovery Coaching funded in my plan?
Toggle answer

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is funded under the Capacity Building, Support Coordination category of your NDIS plan, listed as “Psychosocial Recovery Coach”. If you’re not sure whether your plan includes it, get in touch and we’ll help you check.

Can I work with a coach who has lived experience?
Toggle answer

Matching matters to us. Talk to our intake team about your preferences, including whether you’d like to work with a coach with lived experience of mental health recovery, and we’ll do our best to find the right fit.

How often would we meet?
Toggle answer

That depends on your plan and what’s happening in your life: typically weekly or fortnightly, with more contact during difficult periods and less as things settle. You and your coach will agree on a rhythm that works and adjust it as you go.

Why choose Authentic Care?

  • You pick your team. Meet your support worker for free before any shift starts, and if the fit isn’t right, we swap. No questions.
  • We answer our phone. Calls and emails returned within one business day, and our on call line is staffed every night of the year.
  • Local and independent. We’re a locally owned, registered NDIS provider based in Adelaide, not a national call centre.
  • Everyone stays in the loop. Weekly email updates keep you, your family and your coordinator on the same page.
