Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Supported Independent Living provides help and supervision with daily tasks so you can live as independently as possible, in your own home or a home you share with others, with support available up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for help and supervision with daily tasks in your home. Support can be shared with housemates and is available up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Our SIL teams support the routines of everyday life, getting up and ready, cooking, cleaning and medication, always with the aim of building your skills and independence, not replacing them. We keep your team small and consistent, so you see the same faces each week.
What we can help with
- Support with personal care and daily routines.
- Help with cooking, cleaning, laundry and household tasks.
- Assistance with medication and attending health appointments.
- Building everyday living skills at your own pace.
- Overnight support where needed, including active overnight and sleepover shifts.
Who is it for?
SIL suits participants with higher support needs who need significant help at home each day, often including overnight support. You can live on your own or share with others, and you’ll always be involved in decisions about who you live with.

Your SIL questions answered
SIL funds the support workers who help you at home: personal care, household tasks, skill building and supervision. It doesn’t cover rent, board, groceries or utilities, which you pay like anyone else (other NDIS supports or payments may help with some housing costs).
SIL is the support you receive in your home; Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is funding for the physical home itself, for people with very high needs who require specially designed housing. You can have SIL without SDA, and the two are funded separately.
SIL generally suits participants with higher support needs who need significant help at home each day, often including overnight support. The NDIS decides SIL funding based on your needs assessment. We can help you and your Support Coordinator prepare the evidence.
